An outstanding litigator, Élisabeth Laroche has extensive experience with insurance of persons, especially life and disability insurance claims, as well as with tort law and professional liability. She represents, mostly in defence, numerous financial institutions and insurance companies, as well as investment advisors, auditors, architects, engineers, insurance brokers and agents, directors and lawyers. She also advises individuals and trust companies in estate and trust matters.
Élisabeth has appeared before numerous Canadian tribunals, including appeal jurisdictions, and acts in many complex and lengthy trials.
She is also a prolific speaker and author, having written numerous articles on the legal issues inherent in her clients’ activities.
Élisabeth’s accomplishments include files that led to around one hundred decisions reported on specialized websites. Over the past few years, she has argued numerous cases on insurance law or general commercial law, before trial or appeal jurisdictions.
In addition to frequently defending insured parties, she argued many cases on typical matters in insurers’ files, such as contesting claims for indemnity, the scope of the coverage, invalidation of insurance policies, the insurer’s obligation to defend the insured, brokerage commissions, liability for premiums or proceedings before the Autorité des marchés financiers, Quebec’s regulatory authority.
She is also skilled on the numerous aspects of general commercial law files, such as the impact of a party’s foreign residence, privacy or commercial disputes.
