Juliana is a lawyer in our Civil and Commercial Litigation group.

Her practice focuses primarily on bankruptcy and insolvency matters, applications for judicial review, as well as construction law.

Juliana represents receivers, trustees, suppliers, and debtors in insolvency cases, as well as creditors in enforcing their security interests. She also advises general contractors and subcontractors in their disputes. Drawing on her diverse experience, Juliana is also involved in a wide range of general civil liability cases.


Representative files and mandates

Insolvency

  • Represented a receiver appointed to the assets of a subcontractor in the steel industry to collect several important receivables, notably related to claims for costs and delays on various construction sites.
  • Represented a trustee in a bankruptcy proceeding in which a related company claimed full ownership of the bankrupt’s assets.
  • Assisted receivers and trustees in the sale of debtors’ immovable and movable assets.
  • Prepared legal opinions regarding the validity and rank of securities granted to secured creditors by insolvent companies.
  • Defended a trustee against a claim of personal liability for alleged environmental damage.

Judicial review

  • Defended the interests of Quebec universities in applications for judicial review of their academic and disciplinary decisions.
  • Represented a mandatary of the government in contestations of its decisions regarding financing granted to Quebec companies.

Injunction

  • Represented UQAM in an application for a provisional interlocutory injunction against the occupants of an encampment on university property.
  • Represented a real estate developer and general contractor in applications for provisional, interlocutory, and permanent injunctions affecting the progress of a major construction site in downtown Montreal.
