Normand Laurendeau is a partner in our Transportation Law Group. His practice focuses on civil litigation, transportation law, estate litigation and construction law. Normand’s expertise lies within the statutory and regulatory aspects of transportation law, acquired by representing and advising transportation companies. His abilities are widely recognized in the industry, as is his network of contacts.

Normand has developed remarkable skills in analyzing applications and drafting strategic intervention plans. He also provides legal, logistical and operational support to several of our corporate clients’ managers.

Normand has substantial experience before all courts in Quebec as well as numerous administrative tribunals. He is also very familiar with Quebec’s transportation board, where he has represented coach and taxi operators, and road transportation companies.


Representative files and mandates

Transportation Law

  • Represented the applicant company in Roy livraison spécialisée inc. c. Commission des transports du Québec, a case that led to a precedent-setting decision on the criteria to be declared an operator of heavy vehicles
  • Represented numerous carriers in behaviour investigations before the Quebec transportation board
  • Launched proceedings that led the coroner’s office to restart an investigation and file a revised report after a fatal road accident involving a transportation company
  • Secured the payment of transport charges by a consignee of goods following the shipper’s failure to pay these charges
  • Obtained a judgment confirming the validity of a liability limit of $4.41/kg for carriers
  • Drafted transportation-related contracts, such as bills of lading, blanket transport agreements, and warehousing and brokerage service agreements
  • Defended carriers against charges under the Highway Safety Code

General Litigation

  • Involved in a claim for restitution of sums defrauded from a transport company by its regional manager with a preliminary seizure before judgment
  • Involved in proceedings related to all aspects of legal hypothecs, such as hypothecary actions and sales under judicial authority, up to the distribution of the proceeds among creditors
  • Represented contractors in claims for extra works
  • Involved in proceedings to declare the validity of a major donation of money by a donor who was terminally ill
  • Conducted judicial verifications of holograph wills and wills made in the presence of witnesses
  • Challenged a refusal of a request for withdrawal from a multi-employer pension plan under the Supplemental Pension Plans Act
