William Plante-Bischoff is a lawyer in our Insurance Law Group. His practice mainly focuses on insurance coverage.

Before joining RSS, William practiced at an international insurance law firm where he had the opportunity to work on a range of coverage and monitoring matters for Lloyd’s Underwriters. He also clerked at the Quebec Court of Appeal for the Honourable Geneviève Cotnam, j.c.a.

  • Coverage opinions in class actions involving institutional sexual abuse, including issues related to the trigger of commercial general liability insurance policies in cases of psychological harm, the application of sexual abuse exclusions, and whether multiple claims are aggregated under a single insurance limit and/or deductible
  • Coverage opinions in environmental pollution matters, particularly regarding the interpretation and application of pollution and automobile exclusions
  • Opinions on builder’s risk insurance policies, notably regarding coverage for property located off-site and the interpretation of applicable deductibles
  • Opinions on municipal liability under the liability insurance policies of public officials, especially regarding the coverage conditions under claims made and reported policies
  • Opinions on commercial property insurance policies, notably regarding the application of replacement cost coverage and exclusions for design errors and gradual deterioration
  • Opinions on professional liability insurance cases involving allegations of negligence by engineers and chartered accountants
  • Opinions on wrap-up liability insurance policies, particularly concerning the application of exclusions such as “Your Products,” “Your Work,” “Impaired Property,” and “Product Recalls,” as well as waiver of subrogation clauses
  • Opinions on the application of co-owners’ and condominium syndicate insurance policies, especially in light of recent legislative amendments to the Civil Code of Québec regarding divided co-ownership
  • Opinions on coverage regarding the duty to defend under commercial general liability policies issued to educational institutions in connection with allegations of bullying and/or inadequate supervision of students
  • Opinions on civil liability and assessment of quantum in large-scale construction matters
