Jean-François Bélanger joined RSS as a summer student in May 2024 during his third year of studies at the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, at the University of Ottawa.

Previously, he was a teaching assistant to Me Vincent Caron, a professor at the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, for the courses DRC1514 – Law of Obligations I and DRC1714 – Law of Obligations II. He provided support to students by answering their questions and advising them on study techniques.

He was also a research assistant to Terry Skolnik (S.J.D), an associate professor at the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, where he provided research support and assisted in drafting texts on Canadian criminal law reforms.

Jean-François is cultivating interests in insurance law, business law, litigation, as well as labor and employment law.

  • Recipient of a scholarship from a major law firm recognizing academic excellence and an interest in practicing within a firm


Associations

Mentor for the University of Ottawa’s Civil Law Section for the 2023-2024 academic year. In this role, he supported the first-year cohort of the Licentiate in Law (LL.L.) program in their academic journeys. Specifically, he advised students on best practices for studying and preparing for assessments. He also coordinated with the appropriate student resource departments to assist students with special needs.
