Hugues Duguay is a Partner in our Insurance Law Practice Group. His practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation in insurance matters, more particularly in the areas of professional errors and omissions, and product liability.
He frequently appears before the Superior Court, the Court of Appeal and other jurisdictions in Quebec.
Over the years, he has counseled many insurance companies with respect to the interpretation of property insurance policies as well as CGL, E&O and D&O liability insurance policies. His clients appreciate his drafting and analytical skills.
Advised an engineering firm’s professional liability insurer on insurance coverage matters arising from a major lawsuit based on design flaws in expansion operations of an iron ore mine in Mount Wright, Quebec.
Advised an engineering firm’s professional liability insurer on insurance coverage matters related to major lawsuits based on design flaws in power transmission systems in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Advised an engineering firm’s professional liability insurer on insurance coverage matters arising from numerous lawsuits based on the presence of pyrrhotite in the foundations of residential dwellings in Mont-Laurier, Quebec.
Successfully defended a law firm against a malpractice claim for false representations.
Represented a manufacturer of concrete in a major latent defect case involving the presence of pyrrhotite in several hundred residential properties and numerous commercial buildings in the region of Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
Successfully defended an errors and omissions liability insurer for municipalities against a Wellington application on the basis that a policy excluding coverage for acts in bad faith also excludes a municipality’s rule-making activity.
