Nicolas Drolet’s practice focuses on the aviation and air transport industry, through his insurance, regulatory and labour and employment practice.
In his specific aviation law practice, he deals with various types of insurance claims, both in defence and in subrogation/recovery, in cases raising air carriers’ liability for both passengers and cargo. Nicolas deals with owners, builders/manufacturers and parts and maintenance service providers for both fixed-wing and rotary aircraft and engines, as well as airports, airlines and drone operators. He also advises these stakeholders on the application of statutes governing aeronautics.
Nicolas earned, and still holds his pilot’s licence after graduating from the Centre québécois de formation aéronautique (CQFA) in 2006, having received the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) Scholarship for excellence in multi-engine, instrument-based flying. He has also completed technical training in aviation, for which he still holds a valid airline pilot licence. Nicolas has flown aircraft throughout the country, mainly in the Canadian North, carrying both cargo and passengers and performing medevac services.
As a member of our Insurance Law Group, Nicolas represents insurance companies under provincial jurisdiction as well as their insureds in all matters related to insurance law.
Nicolas also has experience with the labour and employment aspects in the airline and aircraft maintenance industry. He has drafted employment contracts, advised employers on the strict regulations applicable to the industry, and represented employers before the courts and administrative tribunals.
